Artist's Statement

The sentence that I ultimately landed with was "Floating where psychedelics might, dissociation still scared him."

The purpose of this project was to try to convey some semblance of disassociation or de-personilazation from excessive use of substances. I personally am not trying to make the piece an anti-substance message but rather to shed some light on some of the things that come with it like memory loss, or not wanting to deal with an addiction because of the temporary happiness substances bring. I also tried to make the piece represent the endless cycle of coming back to substances even when someone knows it will only make things worse. My main goal for the visual side of the piece was mainly just to show degredation through very primative forms of glitch art and imagery representative of hallucinations. Some inspirations in terms of theming were from artists like Jack Stauber and from personal experience.
